Friday, May 5, 2017 is National Hoagie Day! FUN FACT: Hoagies were invented right here in Philadelphia! It is widely debated who created the Hoagie and when it was created.  According to whatscookingamerica.net, there are 4 main stories. The most popular story is Italian Immigrants working on Hog Island during World War I would bring giant sandwiches filled with cold cuts, spices, oil, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and peppers to each for lunch.  They were nicknamed “Hoggies” and then over the years the name changed to “Hoagies” and stuck.  Check out this Hoagie recipe from SheKnows.com on how to make a classic Italian Hoagie and don’t forget to celebrate with lunch on Friday!
